What are the responsibilities and job description for the VIDEO/SOCIAL MEDIA SPECIALIST (EXEMPT PENDING) BPD position at City of Buffalo?
The Video Social/Media Specialist, whose primary goal is to promote the department’s ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability, creates multimedia content to connect with and educate the public about the work of the Buffalo Police Department. He/she performs professional level work – planning, producing, and coordinating studio, remote, file, live and recorded production. The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining the department’s message on all social media platforms. The incumbent reports to and receives direction from the Police Commissioner or a designee. Oversees all media released by the Buffalo Police Department;
Performs a variety of tasks related to pre-production, production and post-production of digital products on behalf of the Buffalo Police Department, including but not limited to: public service announcements; critical incident briefs; recruiting efforts; promotion of agency initiatives; community engagement; and video highlights of the roles of specific officers and/or units.
Maintains social media platforms on behalf of the department;
Conceptualize, shoot, write and edit written and video content for the city’s website and police social media platforms for short-term and long-term projects;
Build relationships with BPD command staff and district chiefs to identify positive, proactive community engagement opportunities;
Executes deliverables independently while maintaining a strong team relationship;
Performs related duties as required.(A) Bachelor’s or Associate's Degree from a college, university or technical institute accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education, in Audio Visual Technology, Communications Equipment Technology or a closely related field;
OR
(B) Bachelor’s or Associate's Degree from a college, university or technical institute accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education, (any major) and two years of full-time experience working with multi-media instructional material and equipment including layout, design, operation, demonstration, cataloging and processing of audio-visual equipment and material.
OR
(C) Graduation from High School, GED or Equivalency Diploma and four years of full-time experience working with multi-media instructional material and equipment including layout, design, operation, demonstration, cataloging and processing of audio visual equipment and material.
OR
(D )An equivalent combination as defined within the limits of A, B and C.

Thorough knowledge and recent experience as a strategic content producer specializing in community engagement interactions;
Documented track record of producing compelling stories on digital and legacy media platforms;
Thorough knowledge of and understanding how to best utilize social media algorithms;
Proficiency in Final Cut Pro, Adobe Pro CC, or equivalent production program;
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
