General Purpose
Responsible for various facets of computer hardware and software services for the City of Brunswick. Provides support to end users on a variety of hardware and software issues. Identifies, researches, and resolves technical problems with supervision. Performs repairs and maintenance services. Assists with network administrative activities, telephone network and support, and system security. Installs hardware and software computer applications and computer peripheral equipment. Responds to telephone calls, emails and personal requests for technical support.

Works under the general guidance of the Information Technology Security Officer and the full time Information Technology Assistant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Diagnoses and repairs hardware. Works with vendors to replace failed equipment under warranty.
Maintains an accurate inventory of all equipment and orders supplies as needed. Maintains organized storage of spare and replacement equipment.
Travels to and from City locations to deliver equipment and troubleshoot problems. Conducts preventive maintenance for all computer equipment, includes critical updates.
Perform general technical support functions, including physical installation, assembly, configuration and maintenance of personal computer network linking all City departments.
Installs, configures and upgrades software, using standard business and administrative packages and customizes software owned or operated by City.
Troubleshoots problems with computer systems, including troubleshooting hardware, software, email, network and peripheral equipment problems; takes appropriate action to assist or make corrections where required.
Acts as a technical resource in assisting users to resolve problems with equipment and data.
Implements solutions or notifies outsource providers as required.
Assists in cabling and wiring issues.
Assists in instructing City staff in the use of standard business and administrative software including Microsoft spreadsheets and other office suite products.
Learn and be able to maintain various City department customized software.
Peripheral Duties
Employee may be asked to perform other duties based on the business needs of the City.
The employee may be asked to work holidays.
Desired Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from High School or GED; and two (2) years of general computer installation, maintenance and repair experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above. Must be able to demonstrate significant computer network and hardware understanding.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to troubleshoot and solve system and network problems accurately and independently; Ability to understand and troubleshoot virtualized networks and servers; Ability to learn and understand different Microsoft Windows based programs to assist end users; Ability to prioritize issues with some guidance; Ability to repair computer systems and replace components; Ability to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; Ability to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.
Skill in operating the listed tools and equipment.
Knowledge of rules and laws effective City government.
Special Requirements
Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license.
Tools and Equipment Used
Computers, computer network testing equipment, printers and other multimedia devices; wiring, crimping and tools related to the repair of low voltage equipment and wiring; telephone testing equipment and data analyzing tools; small hand tools related to the repair of network, computer, and other computer devices.
Office equipment including computer and software, copy and fax machine, telephone, cell phone and city automobiles.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Frequently, projects involving work “on location” will involve travel to auxiliary sites for the purpose of repairs and assistance at the numerous various City locations. The position may also require travel for the purpose of attending training workshops. The work schedule may contain evening and occasional weekend hours.
