GENERAL DESCRIPTION:**
Responsible for carrying out tasks required to enforce animal and rabies control and licensing regulations. Patrols city areas to pick up stray or trapped animals, unrestrained animals, reptiles, unlicensed dogs and dead animals. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood I SERVE Core Values.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC WORK PERFORMED:**
- Routine patrol in assigned vehicle, to pick up dead animals, stray or trapped animals, unrestrained animals, reptiles and unlicensed dogs.
- Enforce ordinances governing animal control including writing citations and testifying in court proceedings.
- Investigate complaints of dogs or other animals that are creating a nuisance;.
- Answer questions and educate the public regarding animal control laws, ordinances, licensing and disposal of animals.
- Assist with rabies control work.
- Stay in contact with Police Department and Animal Shelter personnel using two-way radio communication; and laptop computer for additional calls or complaints.
- Serve as liaison between the Police Department and animal shelter.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:**
Indoor and outdoor work, both pleasant and unpleasant. Exposed to possibly diseased and dangerous animals; hazards involve picking up stray animals and reptiles. Ability to sit, stand and drive a vehicle to and from various worksites. Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while performing maintenance duties and be exposed to mechanical and chemical hazards. Ability to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds frequently and 50-75 pounds occasionally. Ability to bend, stoop, walk, push brooms, sweep, and dig. Ability to walk over sloped and uneven terrain. Work involves getting dirty and wet. Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes and odors. Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with the public. Ability to understand verbal and written communication.

Education And Experience
Prefer high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate; some experience working with animals; on-the-job training will be provided.
