The current opening is in the Utility Division. This position has a focus to ensure the delivery of safe drinking water and the operation of the sanitary sewer collection system that includes the operation, repair, maintenance and inspection of public utilities infrastructure.Â
Under the direction of the divisional Field Supervisors and Lead Workers, this position supports the Operations & Maintenance Department and provides for the operation, repair, and maintenance of the City's streets, parks, water, sanitary and storm sewer systems and other associated infrastructures. Provides high levels of customer service to both internal and external customers.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Experience
One (1) year of experience in equipment operation and general equipment maintenance for a maintenance operation.
Licenses/Certifications
An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.

The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check are necessary for this job title. Pay Progression
Based on the Local 49 contract with the City of Brooklyn Park, with satisfactory performance an employee would receive a 4% increase after 6 months followed by another 4% increase after one year. After year two, the employee would receive a 7.5% increase. The current salary range is $31.55 -$40.18 Hourly. Note that wages are based on the 2024/2025 contract.
Anticipated Work Schedule
Full-time, non-exempt, union position; standard work hours are 6:30a.m.- 3:00p.m. Monday-Friday with the possibility of working weekends, holidays, etc. as needed.

Under the direction of the divisional Field Supervisors and Lead Workers, this position supports the Operations & Maintenance Department and provides for the operation, repair, and maintenance of the City's streets, parks, water, sanitary and storm sewer systems and other associated infrastructures. Provides high levels of customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Operate, maintain and improve water distribution system and wastewater collection system to maintain public health.
- Perform customer service order calls related to water and sewer issues.
- Operate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain water services, mains, valves, fire hydrants, water meters and meter interface units (MIU) to include excavation, trenching, or in-home service calls.
- Locate and mark underground utilities for the Gopher State One Program; keep records of underground utilities, as necessary.
- Repair, maintain, & clean sanitary/storm sewer mains, services and utility holes to include excavation, confined space entry methods, jetting and vacuuming.Â
- Operate, maintain, inspect & repair sanitary sewage lift stations, controls, pumps, generators and related equipment.
- Utilize computer and information programs to include ArcGIS, Microsoft Office Suite, OneWorld, Isite Utility Reporting, and CityView.
- Review federal and state laws, regulations and codes related to water treatment plan and wastewater collection to ensure the City maintains compliance; complete all required testing and reporting functions; maintain all required records.
- Perform lab tests as required to monitor effectiveness of the treatment process.
- Perform general labor tasks including repair and maintenance of pumps, motors, meters and hydrants; monitor and clean lift stations, cleaning sanitary sewers and perform other related work required for the operation of the municipal water distribution and sewer collection systems.
- Performs snow and ice control operations on streets, parking lots, sidewalks and trails.
- Performs emergency hazardous materials response procedures.
- Provides assistance with vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Provides assistance in emergency or essential operations to all divisions including parks, streets and utility maintenance divisions.
- Assist other departments in their service delivery, repairs and maintenance.
- Receives and responds to requests and work orders. Follows up on complaints and other matters of public interest related to the City infrastructure, service, and maintenance.
- Deals courteously, effectively and tactfully with the public.
- Performs standby duties on scheduled rotation.
- Perform road maintenance operations in accordance with the pavement rating management plan.
- Perform inspections involving milling, paving and concrete replacement projects.
- Responsible for proper placement of traffic control devices in accordance with MUTC guidelines while working in roadways.
- Performs other duties, as assigned.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Experience
One (1) year of experience in equipment operation and general equipment maintenance for a maintenance operation.
Licenses/Certifications
- Valid Class "D" driver's license at time of hire.
- Valid Class "B" within (1) one year of hire.Â

- Ability to meet physical demands of the job, including but not limited to lifting, bending, climbing, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling.

- Two(2) years of experience in equipment operation.
- Two(2) years of experience in utility maintenance.
- Two(2) years of experience working in a municipal setting.
- Previous experience snow plowing streets, sidewalks, and cul-de-sacs.
- Previous experience working with diverse populations.
- Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali, Lao or Vietnamese language(s).
