DEFINITION
Swim Instructors with the City of Brighton are responsible for conducting group swim lessons at the Brighton Recreation Center. Job duties include creating lesson plans, providing quality swim instruction, giving feedback to participants and their parents, and making recommendations for future swim lesson levels. This position must work well in group setting/peers and with the public, while providing excellent, respectful customer service and human relations skills, which support the City of Brighton's mission and values.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from the Assistant Aquatics Coordinator. The Swim Instructor does not supervise other employees.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Attends all required initial and ongoing training.
Plans, instructs, and supervises lessons.
Uses appropriate teaching techniques to instruct and manage classes. Must be able to manage groups of children of all ages while maintaining a safe and secure environment for all participants. Accountable for whereabouts of children at all times.
Accounts for and maintains all equipment.
Written work includes generating lesson plans, filling out participant certificates and skills checklists.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have valid CPR and First Aid certifications.
WSI or Swim America certifications preferred.
Must be able to perform essential duties and be able to pass a background screening.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
