Electrical Inspector

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Specialized inspection work of ordinary difficulty and responsibility in connection with regulating electrical installations, alterations, and repairs; related work as required; performed under general supervision but with wide latitude for independent decision in work of routine character.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential functions or duties described below are the primary functions and duties of the position. • Inspects electrical installations and alterations to ensure compliance with pertinent codes and regulations.
• Discusses plans and problems with interested parties and assists and advises.
• Examines more comprehensive plans and offers recommendations to ensure proper installations.
• Issues permits, answers correspondence, processes electrical licenses
• Prepares examinations for journeymen and master electricians.
• Investigate possible violations and enforce correction of defects; keep records and make reports.
• Requires proficient computer skills, internet, and computer software.
• Must attend continuing education training programs.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• High School graduate.
• Three (3) years’ experience as a journeyman craftsman in the specialized field, or in an equivalent supervisory capacity.
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Thorough knowledge of electrical methods, practices, and pertinent codes and regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
• Demonstrated tact to ensure strict adherence to pertinent regulations without interference with effective relationships.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

• Valid Connecticut Driver’s License – This job requires daily driving.
• Valid E-1 Unlimited Electrical Contractor License.
• Certified Electrical Inspector as per Section 29-262-8b of Connecticut General Statutes, if not already attained, is required to be completed by the end of probationary period.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. * While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts or in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
