This is a regular, part-time, non-represented position budgeted for 20 hours a week for 50 weeks per year.


Under the supervision of the Parks and Recreation Manager or designee, supports daily recreation facility operations and rental events. Prepares activity rooms, restrooms, and public areas for their intended use; monitors facility needs during activities and events; secures facilities at the conclusion of use; and informs full-time staff of significant events or concerns.

  • Monitors daily facility activities and responds to room, building, grounds, and rental needs in accordance with established requirements and guidelines.
  • Sets up and dismantles activity rooms, including arranging and moving tables, chairs, and other required furniture and equipment.
  • Communicates with staff and patrons regarding facility activities, needs, and requirements.
  • Responds to unplanned situations and conflicts using effective problem-solving and conflict-resolution practices.
  • Promotes a safe environment, minimizes potential risks, and identifies and reports unsafe conditions.
  • Performs minor or necessary repairs when possible or as directed.
  • Records attendance levels and prepares reports as directed.
  • Performs facilities cleanup as instructed or needed.
  • Opens and secures recreation facilities as assigned.
  • Performs general grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, and weeding in designated locations.
  • Performs duties primarily during evenings and weekends.
  • Maintain regular attendance and performs related work as assigned or required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  • Basic first-aid and safety practices.
  • Conflict-resolution principles and practices.
  • Assigned recreation program areas, facility operations, and rental guidelines.

Skill in:

  • Interacting effectively and diplomatically with staff, patrons, and large groups of people.
  • Setting up, dismantling, and moving tables, chairs, furniture, and other facility equipment.

Ability to:

  • Remain attentive, motivated, and engaged throughout assigned activities and events.
  • Understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to facility, grounds, and rental needs.
  • Exercise sound judgment and respond effectively to unplanned situations and conflicts.
  • Recognize unsafe conditions and take appropriate action within the assigned scope of responsibility.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience performing similar duties in municipal recreation, parks or general maintenance, or a related field is preferred.

An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Equivalencies do not apply where a license or certification is required by law.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Successful completion and clearance of a background check
  • First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificates must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • A valid driver's license may be required depending on assigned duties.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing for sustained periods, walking between work areas, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping. Duties also require speaking and hearing sufficient to exchange detailed information at normal speaking levels, with or without correction. 

This position performs medium work, including exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects. Visual acuity is required to assess the accuracy and thoroughness of custodial, maintenance, and general labor tasks and to make general observations of facilities and structures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is generally performed in environments protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position is not otherwise substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
