Essential Duties
Assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom environment; monitor and oversee student drills, practices and assignments in assigned subjects; assist with the implementation of lesson plans.
Assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework and projects in assigned subject areas; assure student understanding of classroom rules and procedures; assist students by answering questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance.
Read books to students and observe their reading abilities as assigned; assist students with letter and word pronunciation and recognition as required; assist students with spelling, grammar and writing exercises and assignments.
Explain and assure student understanding of classroom, assignment and homework instructions; take notes for students as required; confer with teacher concerning lesson plans and materials to meet student needs; assist in administering and monitor students during tests as assigned.
Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom according to established policies and procedures; monitor students during outdoor and various other activities as assigned; monitor and report progress regarding student performance and behavior.
Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities such as preparing and duplicating instructional materials; grade student tests and assignments and record grades as required.
Provide classroom support to the teacher by setting up work areas, decorations and displays, and distributing and collecting paper, supplies and materials.
Operate a variety of classroom and office equipment such as a calculator, copier, computer and assigned software; drive a vehicle to make home and site visits as assigned by the position.
Communicate with District staff, parents and others to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns; initiated and receive telephone calls as needed.
