The City of Bowie is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Full-Time Administrative Assistant within the Public Works Department’s Engineering Division. This position provides comprehensive administrative support with a primary focus on permit processing, plan review coordination, bonding, and public works operations support.
This role is critical to ensuring efficient workflow across engineering, inspection, and administrative functions. The selected candidate will serve as a central point of coordination for permit intake, tracking, approvals, and customer service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Facilitate and track permit applications, plan reviews, and approvals.
· Coordinate bond processing, releases, and reductions.
· Maintain and organize digital and physical filing systems.
· Serve as the primary point of contact for customer inquiries (phone, email, in-person).
· Assist with public works project tracking and administrative reporting.
· Support coordination between engineering staff, inspectors, contractors, and developers.
· Prepare correspondence, reports, and internal documentation.
· Assist with office operations, including supply management and administrative workflow support.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· High School Diploma or equivalent
· Minimum of two years of administrative support experience (data entry, recordkeeping, customer service, telephone communication).
· Demonstrated ability to work as a proactive and dependable team player, maintain clear communication with staff and leadership, and take initiative to support organizational priorities and workflow efficiency.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Prior experience working in a public works, municipal government, or public administration environment
· Experience with permit processing, bonding, or contracts administration
· Ability to read and interpret construction plans and documents
· Associate’s degree or higher
· Experience working with project tracking systems or permitting software
PAY RATE: $26.24/ HOURLY
