Position Overview

As a Part-time Event Worker, you assist in the coordination and execution of events hosted by the City of Borger. Reporting to the Civic, Convention, and Main Street Coordinator or a designated supervisor, you perform various tasks related to event setup, logistics, participant assistance, and cleanup. In this role, you help ensure the success of city-sponsored events and create a positive experience for attendees—all while upholding the core values of Boomtown PRIDE: Professional, Responsive, Innovative, Diverse, and Empowered.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Event Setup: Assist in setting up event spaces, including arranging tables, chairs, tents, signage, and other equipment or materials as needed for the event.
  • Participant Assistance: Provide assistance and guidance to event participants, including directing them to registration areas, answering questions, and providing information about event activities and schedules.
  • Logistics Support: Assist with logistical tasks such as traffic control, parking coordination, crowd management, and equipment transportation to ensure smooth operation of the event.
  • Vendor Assistance: Provide support to event vendors, exhibitors, and sponsors, including helping with setup, addressing any issues or concerns, and facilitating communication between vendors and event organizers.
  • Participant Engagement: Engage with event attendees in a friendly and welcoming manner, fostering a positive atmosphere and encouraging participation in event activities and attractions.
  • Safety Awareness: Maintain awareness of safety protocols and emergency procedures, including first aid and evacuation procedures, and respond promptly and appropriately to any safety concerns or incidents that arise during the event.
  • Cleanup and Breakdown: Assist with post-event cleanup and breakdown activities, including dismantling equipment, removing trash and debris, and restoring event spaces to their original condition.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with event staff, volunteers, and other city employees to ensure the successful execution of events, communicating effectively and providing support as needed.
  • Customer Service: Provide friendly and courteous customer service to event participants, vendors, exhibitors, and other stakeholders, addressing inquiries, concerns, and feedback in a professional and helpful manner.
  • Documentation: Assist in maintaining accurate records of event attendance, activities, and incidents, completing required logs, reports, and documentation as directed by the Event Coordinator or designated supervisor.

Typical Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; previous experience in event planning, hospitality, customer service, or related fields desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with event participants, vendors, staff, and volunteers in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ability to follow directions, work well as part of a team, and perform tasks independently with minimal supervision.
  • Enthusiasm for event planning and execution, with a willingness to assist with various tasks and responsibilities to ensure the success of city-sponsored events.
  • Basic knowledge of safety procedures and emergency protocols applicable to event environments, as well as a commitment to maintaining a safe and secure event environment for all participants.
  • Physical stamina and agility to perform tasks such as lifting, carrying, and moving equipment, standing for extended periods, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
