Summary Statement

Play a key role in keeping airport operations safe and compliant. In this position, you’ll help ensure adherence to all applicable laws and regulations while actively supporting airfield safety through wildlife mitigation efforts that reduce hazards for arriving and departing aircraft. Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

  • Bachelor's degree in airport management, aviation science, business, public administration or a closely related field
  • 2 years of experience in airport operations or administration, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Licensing And Other Requirements

  • Valid state-issued driver’s license.
  • Individuals must annually qualify and maintain qualification standards with firearms and pyrotechnics.

Essential Functions

Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff. Is capable of performing all duties of an Operations Specialist.

Responds to all emergencies for aircraft accidents, terminal medicals, fuel and chemical spills and security threats. Interacts with victims, emergency responders and witnesses and completes appropriate reports. Conducts wildlife mitigation efforts on and around the airport in accordance with United States Department of Agriculture regulations and FAA regulations.

Inspects runways and taxiways, along with safety areas and airfield markings/signs/lighting, surface defects and potential hazards. Performs inspections of airfield and airport property to ensure code compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA), state and local laws and regulations.

Monitors movement and airport access through security access tracking software and responds to all alarms. Monitors and controls multi-faceted enhanced Closed Caption Television (CCTV) and access control systems using computer software.

Provides customer service to the public and airport community. Provides assistance and guidance for airlines and airport vendors. Reviews lost and found, following departmental guidelines for logging found items and return to owners.

Operates and monitors radio systems to communicate airport functions as well as emergencies on and around the airport. Operates and/or monitors flight information displays, weather displays, runway surface sensor displays and fire detection systems and emergency notifications.

Monitors local and regional weather patterns. Reports airport and airfield conditions. Issues proper Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) and ensures NOTAM are up to date regarding critical information pertaining to airport field conditions and/or closures.

Requirements

Additional Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

Knowledge of:; TSA security and FAA airport safety regulations.; Federal, state and local laws, regulations, policies and procedures related to the operations of a certified commercial airport; radio etiquette and aviation terminology; airfield and terminal procedures and technical aviation issues, equipment and administration; safety practices and precautions sufficient to recognize and correct hazardous situations; and computer usage including related software.

Ability to:; exercise sound judgment in stressful situations; handle customer concerns skillfully and respectfully and remain calm under public criticism; prioritize work and relay information during emergency situations; make quick decisions and adopt and/or modify established practices and procedures for emergency situations; accomplish multiple tasks accurately with frequent interruptions; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.

Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training

Three years of experience conducting FAA FAR 139 and TSA 1542 compliance inspections or experience as a pilot, crew member, flight dispatcher or military experience.

American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) training/credentials including Airport Certified Employee (ACE), basic or advanced Airport Safety and Operations Specialists (ASOS) certification.

FEMA NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications.

Physical Efforts

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting/carrying up to 100 pounds. Also, the employee is frequently pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds and occasionally pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds. The noise level is always moderate and frequently very loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.Additional physical efforts include: use of firearms.

Working Environment

The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards, work in/at heights and confined spaces. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to chemicals. Employees will work in and around running aircraft and heavy equipment and outdoors during all weather conditions.

This position works: varying shifts in a 24/7 operation, including holidays and weekends.
