Group Swim Lesson Instruction:
The City of Blue Ash is seeking enthusiastic, dynamic, and experienced Swim Lesson Instructors to support the Blue Ash Recreation Center’s School of Fins: Swim and Safety Lessons program. Swim Lesson Instructors are responsible for teaching structured group swim and water safety lessons that emphasize safety in and around the pool, participant comfort, and basic stroke development in accordance with the School of Fins: Swim and Safety program. Instructors deliver engaging, age-appropriate instruction in a positive group setting.
As a Group Swim Lesson Instructor, you will emphasize water safety skills to help participants feel confident and secure in and around the pool, while providing in-water instruction in fundamental swim skills, including freestyle and backstroke development.
There are typically three to four sessions offered per summer, with each session lasting one week. Each swim lesson is 35 minutes in length and serves participants ranging in age from 6 months through 9 years. Swim lessons are offered on weekdays during morning and evening hours.
Private Swim Lesson Instruction:
In addition to teaching group swim lessons, instructors may have the opportunity to provide private swim lessons. Instructors must be 18 years of age and actively teach group swim lessons to be eligible to instruct private lessons. Private lesson rates vary and generally range from $25–$35 per half hour.
This position includes paid, on-site training, participation in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS), a free individual membership to the Blue Ash Recreation Center (with eligibility and discounts for family members), and discounts at the Blue Ash Golf Course and Sandtrap Grill.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Lifeguard Certification
- Ability to demonstrate swim skills appropriate for instructional purposes
- One to two (1–2) years of experience teaching group swim lessons
- Ability to engage participants in a positive and motivating manner
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings and evenings, based on program needs
Preferred Qualifications
- Swim Instructor Certification (e.g., American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or equivalent), or willingness to obtain
