What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intern (Water Resources) position at City of Bloomington?

The City of Bloomington's Engineering Division is seeking one individual to work during the 2026 summer as a Water Resources Intern. The Water Resources intern will assist the City in several tasks ranging from ecological assessments to inspection of stormwater infrastructure. The participant will gain a wide array of experiences and will have a firsthand look at the diversity of jobs and responsibilities tied to the management of municipal water resources.
Schedule may vary. Individual will work either 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with the possibility of overtime.

- Perform pond ecosystem assessment and water quality sampling
- Perform field inspection of stormwater infrastructure (storm sewer) and best management practices
- Perform erosion control inspections of active construction sites
- Participate in municipal mosquito control
- Communicate with the public
- Prepare plans and maps with computer-aided drafting and GIS
- Various office tasks
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of one academic year of a four-year Natural Resources Degree (including but not limited to biology, ecology or environmental science) or one academic year of an Engineering program
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Comfortable around traffic, with traffic control devices
- Comfortable around water and in boats
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS
This position does not supervise others.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $20.24 Hourly
Full-Time Temporary; Non-Exempt; Non-Union; Benefits Ineligible (except for PTO)
