Primary
Trains new Communications Operators and schedules the Communications Operators for shifts to ensure 24/7/365 coverage.
Act as receptionist for City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) Service Center.
Administer 811 line locate requests.
Relay factual and helpful information to and from customers and other members of the public via multi-line
Facilitate City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) activities by communicating clearly and efficiently with CBU staff, other City Departments, and external stakeholders.
Protect CBU assets and personnel safety by monitoring via close circuit television all activity surrounding the CBU Service Center and communicating anomalies.
Initiate City staff activities in response to severe weather or other emergencies.
Promote efficient City traffic flow for emergency responders by communicating CBU-related street closings/openings.
Develop all materials for CBU staff internal communications, such as contact and notification lists. Coordinate calls from work crews and dispatches assistance if necessary.
Secondary
Serve as backup Communications Operator in case of emergency.
Support CBU decision-making via data collection and distribution.
Participate in quarterly meetings, annual training, and assists in training new Communication Operators. May be asked to monitor tank elevations.
Responsible for finding replacement if a scheduled individual cannot work.
Take all reasonable steps to maintain a safe work environment.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
High school or equivalent (GED), or combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.
Knowledge of standard office procedures, Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite.

Maintains frequent contact with department supervisors and associates, representatives of other government and community agencies, and members of the general public for the purpose of receiving daily assignments and giving and receiving factual work-related information. This position is the voice for the City during evenings, overnight, weekends, and holidays.
