Supervises and assists work crew in performing department projects, such as sidewalk and ADA ramp installation.
Operates heavy equipment including gradall, payloader, roadgrader, backhoe, dump truck, steam rollers, and related attachments, for the general maintenance, repair, and safety of City streets and right-of-ways.
Regularly checks and maintains assigned vehicle to ensure proper fluid levels and mechanical functions, as needed.
Maintains daily work sheets, reporting work accomplished and materials used, and enters data into department computer as required.
Assists with directing on-the-job training of new employees as needed.
Periodically removes snow and ice from City streets, using appropriate equipment as required.
Assists with annual planning and scheduling of various department projects, preparing estimates of cost and materials as required.
Secondary
May be called for emergency work at times other than the regular shift period.
Performs duties of MEOs and Laborers when necessary.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
High school or equivalent (GED); or combination of education and experience that give the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
Knowledge and ability to operate all equipment and vehicles used by the department, including heavy trucks, graders, loaders, snow plow, related street repair machinery, tools, and equipment.
Knowledge of all applicable safety precautions, and ability to apply such knowledge to daily operations.
Experience with shop mechanics and ability to perform minor preventative maintenance and repair on department vehicles and equipment.
Knowledge of the basic operations of the department, and ability to properly supervise and direct manpower in response to Street Maintenance Supervisor's instructions.
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations.
Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle. Class A CDL preferred; Class B required.

Difficulty of Work
Moderate physical effort is exerted by incumbent in the set up and operation of equipment, including bending, stooping, and movement of extremities necessary to handle equipment controls. Moderate physical effort is frequently required for regular periods of time.
Performs majority of duties out of doors, in varying weather conditions, and is periodically exposed to excessive noise, dirt, dust, and vehicle and equipment fumes. Safety precautions must be used at all times to avoid injury to self and others.

Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including co-workers, City and other government officials, community groups, and the general public.
