Position Overview:
The Summer Mobile Recreation Lead Intern / Coordinator works with Parks and Recreation staff to design, coordinate, and facilitate Rec2U, a mobile recreation program offering free activities at parks throughout the Billings area, with a focus on serving underserved youth.
This position runs from May-August. It is an excellent hands-on internship opportunity for students interested in youth development, recreation programming, and leadership. The Intern/Coordinator will have the opportunity to design and implement creative programming ideas while gaining real-world experience in Parks and Recreation operations. The Intern/Coordinator works directly under Recreation Specialists and is responsible for leading daily programming and supervising 2–5 additional staff across multiple park locations.

- Direct and supervise Rec2U staff during mobile recreation programs
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily Rec2U activities and programming
- Ensure all schedules, registrations, and paperwork are completed accurately
- Lead, organize, and supervise youth activities at various park sites
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all participants
- Act as a positive role model for youth
- Coordinate on-site programs and special events with Parks and Recreation staff
- Direct daily operations to ensure programs are organized and prepared prior to participant arrival
- Assist with administrative duties and other Parks and Recreation programs as needed
- Report directly to Recreation Specialists
- Provide excellent care and customer service to the public
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Currently working toward a degree in Parks and Recreation, Sports Management, Education, Youth Development, or a related field
- Interest in gaining leadership experience in Parks and Recreation
- Demonstrated leadership and decision-making skills
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Experience managing multiple tasks with attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficient in PC use, including MS Word, PowerPoint, and advanced Excel skills
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Ability to work 30–40 hours per week, including nights and weekends as needed
- First Aid and CPR certifications are required, training provided if necessary.
