Job Summary:
The City of Billings Parks, Recreation, and Public Lands is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Instructional Coordinator and Head Coach to lead our middle school youth sports program (grades 6–8). This position oversees and directs one or more sports—Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, and/or Girls Volleyball—at assigned school sites. The ideal candidate will demonstrate and teach sport-specific skills, develop players’ abilities, and foster a positive, safe, and engaging environment for all participants.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, lead, and implement practices focusing on skill development, fundamentals, and game knowledge.
- Demonstrate and instruct sport-specific techniques for players in grades 6–8.
- Attend and actively participate in all practices and games.
- Supervise and mentor assistant coaches; assign duties as needed.
- Serve as a liaison between the program and school administration regarding facilities.
- Oversee facility use and assist gym supervisors with setup and tear down on game days.
- Develop practice plans, including drills and teaching strategies.
- Create and manage team rosters, officiate games when required, and complete other related duties as assigned.
- Communicate with Parks and Recreation staff regarding parent communication, schedules, jersey orders, and rosters.
- Ensure all equipment provided by Billings Parks and Recreation, is used properly.
- Be a positive role model for players, parents, officials, and fellow coaches.
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect on and off the court.
- Organize and manage games to ensure a safe, structured, and enjoyable experience for all players.
- Provide equal opportunities for every child to learn and participate.
- Foster a fun and supportive atmosphere emphasizing growth, development, and teamwork.
- Quickly evaluate situations and make sound decisions during practices and games.
- Handle conflicts calmly and professionally.

Requirements:
- Passion for working with youth and teaching sports.
- Professional, confident, and able to interact effectively with players, parents, officials, and fans.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Reliable transportation to practices and games.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
