The City of Billings is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Mechanic I to perform a combination of routine equipment maintenance and intermediate troubleshooting of malfunctions relating to plumbing, HVAC, electrical and mechanical equipment. Will combine a daily and weekly preventive maintenance routine with responses to immediate repair requests. Duties may include work on the immediate grounds and parking areas associated with an assigned facility. Duties may include being observant of potential safety and security problems. Will regularly work independently on the more complex repairs or equipment replacement activities.
Salary Range: $26.2921 - $28.9974 per hour. Salary reflects Step 1 and Step 3 of a 7-step pay scale. The salary will be dependent on the applicant's education, experience, and training.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Replaces motors, pumps, belts, filters and other HVAC equipment.
- Operates and troubleshoots computer/electronic building control systems equipment and adjusts, reprograms or repairs controls as needed.
- Repairs or replaces water heaters, sinks, toilets or other plumbing fixtures.
- Replace lubricants in pumps and motors and may add refrigerant fluid to compressors.
- Replace lights, light fixtures, heating elements, switches and other basic electrical items not requiring an electrician or assist electricians with repairs.
- Install, adjust, repair and inspect heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment including forced air furnaces, boilers, water pumps, chillers, air conditioning units, exhaust fans, air filters, compressors, cooling towers and heat exchangers.
- Maintain preventative maintenance records and logs.
- Maintain and repair City facilities, equipment and buildings by performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, and mechanical repair work.
- Operate, maintain and repair a variety of mechanical tools and equipment such as power saws, power sanders, drills, air compressors, paint sprayers, sewer augers, and various hand tools required for carpentry, plumbing and maintenance skills.
- Evaluate winter weather conditions and operate snow removal equipment, dispense de-icing products and sand, and other snow removal measures, as needed, to provide safe pathways for Airport Terminal users.
- Observes people or conditions that may present a threat to safety and security and reports them to the proper authorities.
- Respond to tenant and public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment.
- Resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
- Observe unattended packages left in the facility and calls for assistance if there is a possibility of a hazard.
- Assist in security measures and participate in Airport emergency plans.
- Perform security sweeps and report violations of airport security measures.
- Lock and secure building at night.
- Provide assistance during emergency events and training.
- Performs additional facilities duties of a less routine nature.
- Perform journey level carpentry work including the construction, installation, remodeling and repairing of cabinets, partitions, walls, windows, doors, roofs, foundations.
- Read and interpret schematics, diagrams and blueprints.
- Assist, plan and execute special projects as assigned such as air shows, kite and model plane exhibits, and other community related exhibits/displays.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of one (1) year of specialized training beyond high school in the building trades.
- Minimum of two (2) years of related experience, or equivalent.
- Possess a boiler operator's license or one must be obtained within one (1) year of employment.
- Possess a valid Montana driver's license or one must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment.
- Must be able to interact with staff and occasional public or vendor to exchange basic information.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and a federal fingerprint based criminal background check.
