Commercial Building Plans Examiner
City of Bethlehem | Full-Time
The City of Bethlehem is seeking a certified Commercial Building Plans Examiner to support safe, high-quality development throughout the community. This is a great opportunity for an experienced building professional looking for stability, meaningful work, and a collaborative municipal environment.
What You’ll Do
- Review commercial construction plans for compliance with:
- ICC Codes
- PA Uniform Construction Code (UCC)
- ANSI and local ordinances
- Communicate with architects, engineers, contractors, and property owners
- Issue correction notices and provide guidance on code compliance
- Review complex construction issues with the Chief Building Inspector
- Perform inspections during and after construction
- Maintain accurate plan review and inspection records
- Assist with permit issuance and customer inquiries
What We’re Looking For
- Current PA certification in:
- Commercial Building Plans Examiner
- Commercial Building Inspector
- Accessibility Plans Examiner/Inspector
- Commercial Energy Plans Examiner certification preferred
- Experience reviewing commercial construction plans
- Strong knowledge of building codes and construction practices
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications
- Strong communication and customer service skills

Education:
- High school or equivalent (Preferred)
Experience:
- commercial building plan review: 3 years (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- PA Commercial Building Plan Examination Certification (Preferred)

- PA Accessibility Plans Examiner/Inspections Certification (Preferred)
- PA Commercial Energy Plans Examiner Certification (Preferred)
