SUMMARY This position is assigned to the Parks Maintenance Facilities and Custodial Team. The facilities teams primary duties include scheduling, supervising, and performing Facilities and Custodial maintenance tasks at Bentonville Parks facilities. Oversee tasks such as HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and all other mechanical duties Prepare bid/quote specs and work with and oversee contracted labor; Manage purchasing and invoicing for the facilities and custodial team; Participates in budgeting exercises. Perform other tasks as assigned.
This position will be assigned to our Parks & Recreation Maintenance Staff. Primary duties including scheduling, supervising, and performing indoor and outdoor maintenance tasks, including preparing bid/quote specs and work with and oversee contracted labor. Performs other tasks as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Reporting relationships, work assignments, and work schedules may be subject to change in order to meet City needs or operational requirements. Attendance at work and the ability to get along with the public, supervisors, and co-workers are essential elements of this position. Receive certification for CPR, AED, and other certifications as needed. Other duties may be assigned.
Manage and supervise crew leaders and parks and recreation maintenance staff in the scheduling of routine maintenance for public parks, trails, and grounds including, but not limited to, mowing, irrigation, fertilization and disease control, and athletic field preparation. This includes the operation of mowers, tractors, and other associated equipment; assists with landscape projects involving the operation of appropriate equipment; performs snow removal and winter maintenance.
Manage and supervise a horticulture team that includes planning, scheduling, and managing many public gardens in Bentonville parks system. This includes, but is not limited to plant care, plant selection, planting and pruning schedules, fertilizing, pesticide and herbicide application, and disease eradication. Greenhouse oversight. Researches, educates, and applies the latest horticultural and turf science techniques and controls of pesticides and their proper use, research new plant varieties, insect, and cultural problems.
Oversees turf maintenance program for parks and athletic fields. This includes, but is not limited to, fertilization, pesticide application and irrigation management for all facilities and grounds.
Oversees the Urban Forestry team that directly cares for, inventories, and plants trees within the city canopy.
Oversee vehicle and equipment fleet for the department to ensure all equipment works adequately and is safe for use. Recommend new purchases to Parks Maintenance Supervisor and Parks and Recreation Director.
Works with Parks Operations Manager to assist with managing and supervising capital improvement projects within department
Work with Parks Operations Manager to assist with preparing, presenting, and managing a department operational budget. This includes researching products, acquiring quotes/ bids, and recommending purchases to the Parks Maintenance Supervisor.
Interprets company policies to workers.
Leads safety training topics with the team and promotes safety within the department.
Participates and/or leads in customer service training topics.
Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
GENERAL DUTIES Maintain inventory, order and purchase materials and equipment according to established procedures and within budgetary guidelines.
Track, reconcile and properly code invoices, payroll and other required documents as assigned.
Ensures that they and all associates obtain proper training and/or licenses needed to perform job tasks safely and within city, state, and federal regulations.
Addresses directly real or perceived environmental concerns.
Assures that effective orientation and training are given to each new employee.
Administration and implementation of volunteer efforts.

Develop bid specifications and contracts and make recommendations for award of contracts as necessary according to City purchasing policies. Responsible for contract oversight and monitors vendor performance to ensure compliance with city contracts as assigned.
Have demonstrated experience in each of the park specialties and be qualified to provide coordination, support, guidance, and appropriate management for staff Urban Forester, Horticulturists, Turf Maintenance Specialist, Sports Field, Sanitation, Facilities Maintenance Technician, and Grounds & Maintenance Crew Leaders and their teams, as well as maintenance and construction vendors, and volunteers.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervises Parks Maintenance Crew Leaders, Facilities maintenance Technicians, and Maintenance Workers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Two-Year college degree or certificate and seven (7) years directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three (3) years must be in a supervisory or leadership position. Successfully completed supervisory training programs or seminars.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
REASONING ABILITY Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Have and maintain a valid driver's license.
Some positions require a Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
Have and maintain or obtain Playground Safety Inspector Certificate.
Have and maintain or obtain a Certified Pool Operator License. (Facilities)
