About The Role
The City of Bend is recruiting for one (1) full-time, COBEA represented, overtime-eligible Public Works Technician I to support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the City’s public infrastructure and facilities. This is an entry-level, represented position within the Public Works Technician series and provides an opportunity to build skills in construction, maintenance, and public works operations while working as part of a collaborative team.
Public Works Technician I employees perform a variety of hands-on tasks that support City streets, rights-of-way, facilities, and public spaces for all modes of travel. Support Maintenance and Operations
- Perform routine construction, repair, and maintenance of City streets, sidewalks, ADA ramps, and right-of-way infrastructure.
- Assist with asphalt roadway construction and repair, crack sealing, patching, and resurfacing activities.
- Prepare work sites, transport materials, and perform cleanup activities.
- Support upkeep of public rights-of-way, sidewalks, parking areas, landscaped spaces, and other City-maintained areas.
- Perform vegetation control, debris removal, and general grounds maintenance.
- Assist with cemetery grounds maintenance and, as needed, burial support duties with professionalism and compassion.
- Safely use hand tools, power tools, City vehicles, and equipment appropriate to the assignment after training.
- Operate equipment used for snow plowing and removal as assigned.
- Perform basic equipment checks and report maintenance needs.
- Assist with traffic control setup and removal for work zones, special events, and City operations.
- Participate in seasonal maintenance activities, including storm response, leaf collection, and snow and ice operations.
- Respond to emergencies or urgent operational needs, including declared States of Emergency, as directed.
- Follow all City safety policies, procedures, and training requirements.
- Work cooperatively with supervisors and team members to complete assigned tasks.

- Ability to obtain and maintain an Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Flagger Certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Oregon Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement within eighteen (18) months of hire (training provided based on availability).
- Ability to obtain CPR/AED and First Aid Certification within eighteen (18) months of hire.
