GENERAL PURPOSE

Assist with visitor information services at the Tourist Information Center located in downtown Bemidji in Paul Bunyan Park and provide exceptional guest services.

Supervision Received

  • Works under general supervision of the and the Tourism and Facility Coordinator, Parks and Trails Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides professional, efficient, and approachable support and excellent customer service to visitors and staff alike.
  • Maintains a well informed and working knowledge of Bemidji’s attractions and services available to area visitors; acts as a liaison between visitors and these entities.
  • Assists downtown visitors by providing wayfinding directions, event information, and suggestions for local restaurants/retail and regional attractions.
  • Computer entry and tracking of visitor inquiries.
  • Update and organize visitor and community resources
  • Promote local business and community events.
  • Sell merchandise and rent equipment
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and
  • Ability to display and act in a professional manner
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Word processing and administrative support skills desired
  • Must be a confident public speaker able to work with groups of all ages and backgrounds.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of the Bemidji Community.
  • Knowledge, skill and ability to handle emergency situations.
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, department staff, and the public.

Special Requirement
  • First Aid and CPR certified or the ability to become certified within one (1) year of employment.

Tools & Equipment Used

  • Personal computer (including word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint and database software), calculator, multi-line telephone system, scanner, laminator, copy machine, credit card machine, and fax machine.
