School Crossing Guard – Police Department $17 per hour Seasonal Employment
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs responsible traffic control while assisting
school children and/or pedestrians across the roadway during school hours.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Adult school crossing guards only have the
authority and responsibility to stop traffic while assisting school children and/or
pedestrians cross the road and assist school authorities in any school safety patrol
programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED);
• Must be eighteen (18) years or older;
• Must have access to reliable transportation;
• Must be able to work a minimum of three (3) hours a day;
• Must not be presently on court-ordered supervision or probation now or in the past
five (5) years;
• Must not have been convicted of a felony offense or any family offense;
• Must submit a Criminal History and Pass a Background check.
• Must successfully complete Belmont’s Traffic Control Training
WHEN ASSIGNED AS A SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD:
• Will wear Belmont Police Department issued uniforms/safety gear
• Will utilize Belmont Police Department issued signal devices
JOB RELATED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS: This position involves employee to
be able to walk and stand for several hours daily and able to exert up to 10 pounds to
hold signage. Visual and hearing acuity is required to monitor traffic and children. An
employee in this position will be exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
