SOCIAL SECURITY: The City does not participate in Social Security, and does not deduct Social Security payments from any employee's salary. The City does deduct 1.45% of salary for Medicare & makes a 1.45% matching contribution.

- Perform basic reference and advisory service to customers.
- Explain library policies and procedures to customers as required.
- Respond to difficult complaints.
- Drive the Library's bookmobile as needed. No special license required.
- Perform related duties as assigned.

- Previous experience working in a public library setting.
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis on the liberal arts.
Knowledge of:
- 21st century library programming technologies such as pod casting, MySpace, and Second Life as it relates to the paraprofessional level.
- Correct English grammar and spelling.
- General principles and practices of a city library.
- Computer practices in a library setting.
- Dewey Decimal classification scheme.
- Reference sources and research techniques appropriate in a public library setting.
- Assist in carrying out specific functions of the City Library.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Work under deadlines and with constant interruptions.
- Use online library catalogs.
- Use online computer databases to retrieve information.
- Effectively conduct a reference interview and retrieve information on a variety of research topics.
- Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned duties. This includes sitting at a desk for extended periods of time; frequently, stand, bend and reach; use telephone and use a keyboard to communicate through written means.
