The City of Bellevue is seeking an Outdoor Recreation Program Lead to help assist with Outdoor Adventure Summer Camps for our Parks and Community Services TRACKS Outdoor Initiative.
The Outdoor Program Lead, will assist with Bike Camp, Hike and Swim Camp and Adventure Bike Camp for youth 10-13 years. This position is responsible for driving campers and leading daily activities of adventure summer camps. Activities include mountain biking, hiking, swimming and teambuilding. Camps run June 29-August 21, the ideal start date is mid-June. There is potential for on-going part time work after the summer season.

  • Hours: 32-40 hours per week June 29-August 14

Location: Tracks Camps run at various park locations throughout Bellevue including Lake Hills Community Park, Chism Beach Park, Highland Community Center, North Bellevue Community Center and City Hall.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead daily activities of adventure summer camps, including mountain biking, hiking, team building and paddling.
  • Must be able to bike 5-10 miles a day and hike 3-4 miles a day.
  • Drive participants in a city 15 passenger van
  • Administrative duties include communication with customers, parents and partners and managing participant paperwork.
  • Maintaining gear inventory.

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience in assigned activity or program or in the general parks, recreation and community services field.
  • High school diploma or GED; college level course work preferred.
  • Valid driver's license may be required for some positions.
  • Experience facilitating outdoor travel with groups.
  • First Aid certification required with Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness First Aid certification a plus.
  • Experience working with youth and teenagers.
  • 21 years of age or older preferred.
  • Familiarity with local lands a plus.
  • Knowledge of bike safety, rules of the road and general bike maintenance, including fixing flat tires.
  • Ability to multi-task, communicate and work well with others.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to deal with the physical challenges of the TRACKS Program.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must have current Washington State driver’s license, with a good driving record.

Candidate must pass criminal background check prior to being hired.

This is a seasonal, non-exempt, non-union position. Definition of a Seasonal Employee:

  • Must be pre-approved by Human Resources to ensure compliance with the legislation.
  • Regularly scheduled to work up to 40 hours per week for which the customary annual employment is six months or less.
  • "Customary" means that the nature of the position typically lasts for six months or fewer and that the period of employment begins at approximately the same time each year.
