Part-Time Maintenance Technician

Job Summary:

The Part-Time Maintenance Worker performs routine maintenance, light carpentry, and minor repairs on city-owned buildings and grounds. This position ensures municipal properties remain safe, clean, and functional for private and public use.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform basic carpentry tasks: building shelving units, putting together furniture, touch-up painting, etc.
• Perform minor plumbing repairs: unclog drains, toilet repairs/replacement, cleaning/maintaining guttering, etc.
• Perform minor electrical tasks: replace light bulbs/fixtures, basic electrical troubleshooting.
• Perform basic HVAC tasks: change filters, perform seasonal checks.
• Basic fixture installation (soap dispensers, paper towel holders, etc.)..
• Conduct preventive maintenance (lubricate hinges, tighten hardware, caulking and sealing gaps around windows, doors, and fixtures, etc.)
• Snow/ice removal on some city-owned entryways/sidewalks.
• Operate small hand tools and power tools safely.
• Respond to maintenance requests promptly.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of (and proven experience in) maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical systems.
• Ability to use hand tools and small power equipment.
• Ability to read measuring tapes and perform basic math calculations.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. regularly and occasionally heavier loads with assistance.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing ladders or steps
• Ability to work overhead for extended periods
• Manual dexterity for handling tools, small parts, and performing precise repairs.
• Ability to reach, stretch, and maintain awkward positions during maintenance tasks.
• Visual acuity to inspect facilities and perform detailed work; auditory ability to hear alarms, instructions, and equipment sounds.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
• Comfortable with occasional confined space work (e.g., under sinks, crawl spaces)
• Ability to stand or walk for long periods and perform repetitive motions.

Working Conditions:

• Regular daytime hours (8am to 12pm) with occasional overtime and on-call duties during emergencies.
• Exposure to loud noise (power tools, etc.), fumes (gas, fuel, etc.), various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) and hazardous materials (paint, lubricators, etc.) while performing job duties.
