- Conducts trials, arraignments, administrative hearings, and juvenile hearings. Adjudicates the guilt or innocence of persons charged with Class C misdemeanors and assesses punishment. Presides over jury and non-jury cases.
- Responsible for signing and issuing warrants, and court orders. Issues written and oral instructions and opinions. Appears daily (including holidays and weekends) at Municipal Jail to conduct magistrate warnings, and to make appropriate rulings regarding bonds.
- Interprets laws, rulings, and regulations on matters within the jurisdiction of court and performs legal research as necessary.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
- Minimum of two years of experience in the practice of law in the State of Texas.
- Ability to meet State mandated continuing legal education requirements.
- A resident of the State of Texas.
- A citizen of the United States.
- Attorney licensed to practice in the State of Texas and in good standing.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days).
- Must complete the minimum number of hours of instruction in the performance of duties of municipal court judge within the requisite time frame as required by the state law.
- Previous municipal judge experience, as well as Criminal and Civil trial experience.
