What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sewer Collection Operator I position at City of Battle Creek (MI)?
The City of Battle Creek is looking for someone to operate equipment in the installation and maintenance of storm and sanitary pipe and related work as apparent or assigned. Work performed under the moderate supervision of the Foreman II.
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly, requires sitting, bending, reaching, hand dexterity (grasping, holding, keyboarding, repetitive movements), reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, seeing (near and/or far, color, depth, field of vision), hearing, using the telephone, contact with government officials and the general public, working overtime, and working inside and alone. Work frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance).
- Inspects dump trucks, backhoe, and/or any other equipment as assigned; performs minor repairs and maintenance to assigned equipment; performs post-trip inspections; checks fluids, belts, tires, bolts, etc. for safety prior to and after operation.
- Repairs, rebuilds, adjusts elevation and construction of storm inlets; manholes and other structures for storm and sanitary utilities.
- Repairs and lays storm and sanitary pipe, ductile, clay, PVC for gravity and force main sewers.
- Reviews Miss Dig requests and plans utility excavation; assist with televising sewer system lines; maintains job site; place temporary signage for work area.
- Performs manual labor such as concrete sawing; uses a jackhammer; operate surveying levels and sets grade; digs trenches and holes; restores and repairs roads and concrete including curbs and sidewalks; clears easements.
- Performs confined space entry and handles hazardous material.
- Operates a variety of equipment including backhoe, dump truck, front-end loader, snowplow, and mowers.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 1 - 3 years experience intheoperationofvariousheavyequipment.
- Must obtain a Class “A” CDL within 90 days.
- ObtainConfined space, trenching and shoring, and traffic control safety training upon completion of the probationary period.
- Valid driver's license in the State of Michigan.
