What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanic III position at City of Battle Creek (MI)?
Performs a wide variety of complex repairs on small engine and heavy-duty automotive equipment and machinery. Includes designing, adjusting, repairing, replacing, inspecting, diagnosing, overhauling, troubleshooting, and testing various parts in engines, transmissions, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, water pump systems, foam systems, and other equipment including police fleet and fire trucks as assigned; inspects bodies and replaces body units and fixtures. Performs bumping, painting, heating, drilling, bolting, welding, brazing, soldering or cutting operations. Performs preventative maintenance for fleet vehicles, including tune-ups, adjusting brakes, changing fluids and filters, etc. Operates various types of light and heavy automotive and power-driven equipment with considerable skill; operates lathes, boring machines, drill presses, milling machines, sharpeners and other machinery in fabrication of parts and equipment; performs various welding, cutting and fabricating operations. Prepares records and reports, orders parts, and responds to services and field calls as necessary. May review and analyze work of Mechanics I and II.
High school diploma or GED. 1-3 years experience in repairing and overhauling a variety of automotive and other power-driven equipment and machinery
Possess ASE Master Certification in Automotive/Light Truck or Medium/Heavy Truck upon hire. Ability to obtain a valid Class “A” Commercial driver’s license within probationary period. Must have sufficient tools to perform assigned duties as defined in the job description.
