ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION MUST BE COMPLETED & SUBMITTED IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR AN INTERVIEW
Police Officer Recruit is for non-certified applicants. Candidates who are hired will be sent to the Kellogg Community College Police Academy, or other Department-authorized police academy. Upon successful completion of this academy, the Recruit will be promoted to entry-level police officer and must also successfully complete the Battle Creek Police Department's field training officer program.
The Battle Creek Police Officer protects and serves the citizens and communities of the City of Battle Creek. Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of duties involving the enforcement of laws and the prevention of crimes; controls traffic flow and enforces state and local traffic regulations; issues citations; participates in and conducts a variety of criminal investigations; makes arrests; provides support and assistance to special crime prevention and law enforcement programs; and performs a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of law enforcement services and activities.
Typical Qualifications
- Must be nineteen (19) years of age at the time of graduation from the academy.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- AND Associate Degree (preferred) OR completion of 24 semester credit (or term equivalency) hours of college level coursework, OR 2 years of experience at a Law Enforcement Agency (corrections work) OR current Military Commitment in Good Standing OR completion of commitment to the military in Good Standing. Some Military Course Credits may be used for equivalency.
- A minimum of one (1) year or more equivalent life experience such as: employment, internship, coaching, volunteerism, and/or etc.
- Honorably discharged Veterans from the USA Armed Forces must supply a copy of your DD-214.Available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on an overtime basis.
- Legally able to work in the United States.
- Possess a valid Michigan Driver's License at time of employment with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to pass a background investigation and no pending or past felony convictions.
- Meet physical standards as determined by the City's Medical Doctor.
