What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lift Station Operator/Mechanic position at City of Battle Creek (MI)?
Performs intermediate semiskilled work maintaining and repairing mechanical and electrical components and equipment, & related work as apparent or assigned. Work performed under the limited supervision of the WWTP Maintenance Supervisor.
- Cleans and maintains filter screens, process tanks, pumps, pump chambers, wet wells, and related structures, also sewage related process equipment and vehicles. Collects and removes accumulated grit, sludge, trash, grease, ashes, or other process related residual materials from catch basins, pumps, chambers, sumps, and check valves. Lubricates and maintain process equipment.
- Performs routine maintenance and repair work to facilities and equipment using carpentry, painting, plumbing, mechanical, simple electrical or other related skills. Operates a variety of hand and power tools to include drill presses, grinder, pipe threading machine, metal band saw, and welder.
- Assists in grounds maintenance such as landscaping and snow removal.
- Keeps records of maintenance performed, inspection findings and other related documents as directed. Take readings, collect and record data, and maintain operating logs.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 1 – 3 years experience in 2 of the 5 areas listed: welding, plumbing, carpentry, equipment repair and basic electrical repair.
- Valid Drivers License
- Valid DOT Medical Examiner's Card
