What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks and Open Space Seasonal Ranger position at City of Bangor?
The City of Bangor's Parks and Recreation Department is hiring for the position of Parks and Open Space Seasonal Ranger. This position is responsible for enforcement of City Park ordinances and policies as well as patrol City’s other open spaces. Additionally, The Parks and Open Space Seasonal Ranger is responsible for providing an efficient customer service-oriented experience. This is achieved by ensuring a well-maintained environment and quick response to the general public needs. This position works under the direct supervision of the Lead Park Ranger but will receive specific instruction on non-routine tasks.
Duties Include:
- Patrol parks, trails, green spaces and other open spaces by motor vehicle, bicycle or foot.
- Monitor and enforce proper use of City facilities, parks, and open spaces by public users.
- Report discrepancies, problems, recommendations and needed maintenance to the Parks and Recreation Lead Park Ranger.
- Educate and advise the public on City ordinances and policies relating to park and open space use.
- Log and report contacts with unsheltered individuals to the Lead Park Ranger.
- Maintain daily patrol log
- Patrol designated areas throughout the City at specified times as a deterrent to vandalism.
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Supplement Parks and Recreation staff for activities as needed.
- Monitor two-way radio.
- Responsible for answering general questions from the public regarding park amenities.
- Perform occasional maintenance duties as needed.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements Include:
- Basic knowledge of modern office methods, procedures and equipment. Ability to use a computer and GPS unit. Competence in, spreadsheets, databases and other relevant software.
- Ability to operate a VHF radio
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and other educational manuals and instructions.
- Ability to write reports and correspondences.
- Capable of using tools and materials commonly used in building and grounds maintenance activities.
- Ability to develop thorough knowledge of applicable City ordinances required to perform the functions of the job.
- Ability to develop thorough knowledge of City’s trail system to effectively assist trail users.
- Ability to perform minor maintenance tasks in the field of carpentry, painting, and plumbing.
- Ability to deal tactfully with general public.
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written assignments.
- Capacity to withstand long hours of manual tasks.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
This position has a pay range of $15.93 - $17.56 per hour.
