Job Summary

Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks, “BCRP,” seeks a dependable and qualified individual to fill part time non-civil service STEM/STEAM Program Designer Positions. BCRP Offers out-of-school time STEM/STEAM opportunities at Rec2Tech focused recreation centers across Baltimore City. BCRP’s Rec2Tech initiative aims to provide students with opportunities to engage with STEM/STEAM content through hands-on experiences while exploring careers in the STEM/STEAM fields

Essential Functions

  • Content Development – Identify new content aligned to Rec2Tech pathways and student interest.
    • Design specialized courses related to new content identified.
    • Develop syllabus, curriculum, and lesson plans for specialized courses.
    • Share developed content by providing training for staff.
  • Program Delivery and Instruction – Teach a minimum of one 10–20-hour course, per program session (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer).
    • Prepare daily lessons by reviewing and practicing activities prior to program delivery.
    • Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate a variety of learning styles and capabilities.
    • Guide, encourage, support, and supervise a group of 10-15 students during class time.
    • Implement and maintain appropriate behavioral management for program participants.
    • Ensure safety and productivity of participants.
  • Administrative Support – Submit completed syllabus, curriculum, and lessons to share drive for BCRP agency access.
    • Complete and submit daily attendance tracking during course offering.
    • Administer and collect end of session and student interest surveys.
    • Assist with recruiting and identifying students for specialized courses.
    • Support additional STEM program activities as schedule allows.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Have a bachelors (or actively pursuing) in Education or in STEM/STEAM content area. Education Work Equivalency: Three years of related work experience in a STEM/STEAM profession such as an artist, designer, maker, or in a related industry or trade person will satisfy the degree requirement for this position

AND

Experience: Seeking a bi-lingual candidate. One or more of the following: experience teaching or leading programs for K-12 students; experience teaching or leading programs for adults; experience in developing curriculum; or experience with a specialized trade. Experience developing programs, activities, and/or lessons specifically for STEM/STEAM content not required, but a plus.

OR

Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Strong teaching and group facilitation skills.
  • Understanding of instructional practices and youth development.
  • Direct experience with STEM/STEAM content and/or maker education.
  • Ability to work independently developing curriculum and lessons for specialized content courses.
  • Ability to prepare and lead professional development for peers.
  • Ability to accommodate a multitude of learning styles and differentiate instruction as needed.
  • Strong organizational skills and a flexible attitude.
  • Strong communication (written and oral), organizational, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Forms).

Background Check

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening and must be successfully completed.

Probation

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a 6-month mandatory probation.
