Job Summary:
A Liquor Board Office Assistant II performs a wide variety of office support work in the Board of Liquor License Commissioners for Baltimore City. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.
Incumbents receive moderate supervision from an administrative superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where normal working conditions are encountered. Work requires minimal physical exertion but may involve lifting heavy packs and stacks of mail and other materials.
Minimum Qualifications:
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
Education: Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
AND
Experience: Have three years of office support work including the maintenance of confidential indexed records systems and the preparation and screening of official correspondence, reports and forms for accuracy and completeness of information.
OR
Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures including office protocol and various filing procedures.
  • Knowledge of records administration and maintenance techniques and procedures.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer for entering and revising information into agency data record systems.
  • Skill in data entry with minimal errors.
  • Skill in talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic computations accurately.
  • Ability to organize and maintain a variety of indexed record files and systems.
  • Ability to deal courteously with other employees and the public, both in person and by telephone.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files and reports.
  • Ability to review forms to determine accuracy and completeness of information.
  • Ability to handle upset or disruptive people with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to collect and record fees and fines.
  • Ability to locate and retrieve information from a variety of sources and to compile the information following general directions.

Background Check
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
Probation
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
Eligibility
Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
Education Accreditation
Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
Selection Process
All candidates indicating the minimum qualifications on their applications will be placed on the eligible list without further examination. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity. It is essential, therefore, that you give complete and accurate information on your application. Examination Process
Applicants must provide sufficient information on their application to show that they meet the minimum qualifications for this recruitment. Successful applicants will be placed on the employment certified eligible list for at least six months.
The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete supplemental questions to further examine specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities of the position.
