The City of Azle is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Permit Clerk.
This nonexempt Full Time position reports to the Director of Planning and Development, and is responsible for performing work related to the issuance of construction permits; reviewing and approving over the counter and miscellaneous permits, assisting with processing of new residential and commercial permits for review, performing receptionist functions, maintaining records, and performing other work as assigned.

Essential Job Duties
Greets and assists incoming customers to the department; assists the public with questions requiring knowledge of permits, policies, procedures, and ordinances; processes residential and commercial building permit applications, and others including certificates of occupancy, signs, special events, and garage sales; enters data into computer to enable issuance of permits; processes approved permits and notifies applicants when ready for issuance; answers incoming phone calls and writes letters and/or e-mail messages; receives and processes contractor registration forms; operates PC and all office machines; types and files forms, charts, statements, letters, memos and other departmental monthly and annual reports.
Secondary Job Duties
Processes rental agreements for city-owned facilities including ballfields, pavilions, and food truck park. Monitors facility rentals and schedule. Processes payments for other departments including code enforcement liens, Music In The Park sponsorships, Fire Department permits/inspections, and City Secretary’s alcohol and gaming permits. Occasionally prepares correspondence for the Parks Department.

Communicates effectively and courteously in every area of public and employee contact, on the telephone, in person and in writing. Uses proper telephone etiquette and tact to handle all callers in a professional manner.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Must possess strong verbal, writing, and organizational skills; Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, and Word, records management software, permitting software, recreation management software, and financial software. Must have the ability to accurately handle cash and process all forms of payments, and occasional refunds. Must be neat in appearance and possess an ability to deal with customers in difficult situations. Must be people-friendly, self-motivated, detail-oriented with the ability to make independent decisions, as needed.
May be required to carry, hold, lift, push and/or pull up to 35 pounds.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification - Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Minimum two (2) years of clerical experience in an office setting that required public contact, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
