The City of Avondale is accepting applications for the position of Associate Engineer in the Engineering Department.  This recruitment will remain open until filled.  Application reviews will begin on June 24th.

Hiring Range: $85,536.14 to $106,920.18
 
The salary range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.  
Hiring range is an estimate of the compensation amount for the selected candidate. 
The salary offer will consider various factors, including skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, and/or training.

This position will provide engineering support, assistance, and reporting on a wide variety of engineering and architectural projects; support senior staff on the completion and plan review of various types of civil infrastructure, including but not limited to capital improvement projects, traffic engineering facilities, private development projects, and other types of projects including utility/telecommunication, and infrastructure improvements; and provide customer service to residents, business owners, developers, and engineers.Supports development by reviewing and approving preliminary and final construction plans and technical reports to ensure compliance with City ordinances and Engineering design standards. Provides customer service to residents, business owners, developers, and engineers.  Manages complex and multi-disciplinary activities and projects, including development, utility, and telecommunication projects.  Assists with the City’s current and long-range utility and infrastructure planning efforts.

Coordinates projects with local, state, and federal agencies as needed.  May be required to coordinate and manage the work of outside consultants.

Implements division policies, guidelines, and construction specifications. Identifies and processes easement and Right-of-Way (ROW) acquisitions for developers and engineers.

Responds to various concerns and complaints from residents and local business owners, providing information, recommendations, and general information to developers, engineers, and the public.

Performs project management and administration of project reviews by managing the project review timeframe, preparing review comments, preparing review fees, and coordinating with other city departments.  Coordinates with the applicant on design submittals and review comments.

Prepares council reports and may provide presentations for projects.  Reviews and provides input on subordinates’ council reports and presentations.

Conducts and attends meetings with owners, developers, architects, and engineers regarding design expectations and engineering requirements for public and private development.A Bachelor’s degree in a related field, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Construction Management.

Two (2) years of project management, civil engineering, civil plan review, or design experience.
 
Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification is required.

Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil3D, plan review, construction site inspection, and project management systems preferred.

A valid Arizona Operator’s Driver License or the ability to obtain one upon hire.Work requires reading construction plans and specifications, county, state, and federal regulations, legal documents and descriptions, contracts, and engineering reports.

Work requires the ability to perform math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as various algebraic, geometric, trigonometric, and calculus calculations.

Work requires the ability to write technical documents, engineering design guidelines, construction specs, policies, and procedures.

Work requires supervising and monitoring the performance of consultants.  Supervising of internal staff may be required at times.

The incumbent prepares documents and research to justify language used in documents for a department unit and may recommend budget allocations.

Work is widely varied, involving analyzing and evaluating many complex variables. Citywide policies, procedures, or precedents are developed and/or recommended. Deals with civil engineering principles. Provides plan and specification clarification.

The incumbents in this position work with others within the city’s organization.  These contacts may involve similar work units or departments within the City, such as Planning, Building, Fire, Public Works, and Economic Development, which may be involved in decision-making or approval for development projects.  In addition, these incumbents work with individuals outside the City who may belong to professional or peer organizations. The employee may also need to work with various state and federal agencies.  Meetings and discussions may be conducted with customers, developers, contractors, and design engineers to resolve specific engineering issues.

Employees must maintain regular attendance. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

Salary : $85,536 - $128,304
