What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Wastewater Plant Operator - WWA position at City of Atlantic Beach?
Responsible for operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities to ensure effluent quality and treatment plants are in conformity with all Local, State and Federal regulations. Work is performed under the supervision of the Chief Plant Operator, and performance is reviewed through reports submitted, conferences, and results obtained.
- Operate, maintain and supervise wastewater treatment plants to include, pumps and valve equipment, generators, instrumentation, and chlorination and de-chlorination systems, odor control systems, tanks and piping.
- Ensure effective biological, physical and chemical treatment is effective, and effluent meets regulatory requirements.
- Assists with administering and monitoring plant quality assurance, procedures and policies.
- Assists with overseeing plant personnel; training assigning and evaluating performance.
- Communicates and submits orders to vendors and suppliers for wastewater treatment plant chemicals, equipment, and parts; purchase supplies and parts as needed and approved.
- Inspect, operate, and troubleshoot operation of wastewater plants and facilities; inspect parts, equipment, and machinery; locate causes of failure; determine needed repairs; schedule/or perform preventative maintenance.
- Ensure proper operation of solids handling systems and proper testing and disposal of residual solids.
- Verifies all regulatory compliance sampling is completed.
- Ensure on-site and contract laboratories meet regulatory certification requirements. Schedule as needed testing to be done on the wastewater system. Assists with field wastewater quality and process control testing as required.
- Assist with the management of the City's compliance with the Domestic Wastewater Facility Permits.
- Assist with the planning and incorporation of changes in procedures and techniques to comply with new or revised State and Federal regulations.
- Compile information, prepare and submit required reports for Federal and State agencies.
- Participate in and respond to requests for information during regulatory inspections.
- Assist with the proper calibration of meters monitoring flow, pH, chlorine or other parameters.
- Meet with and maintain effective working relations with Plant staff and management, other department employees, regulatory agencies like FDEP, engineers, contractors, consultants, and the general public regarding wastewater treatment issues; provide technical assistance as needed.
- On call 24-hours a day to respond to emergency calls, and handle customer complaints or emergencies.
- Operate a variety of light and heavy equipment. Transport employees, materials, & equipment as needed.
- Maintain required records and logs.
- Perform all other tasks as required.
