Salary: $58,978 - $65,000 annually

General Description and Classification Standards

Conducts psychological assessments and evaluations (intake assessments) for prisoners in the corrections or court system. Work is performed at the Correctional Center. Recommends specialized treatment and wellness resources. Recommends communication needed with the family or other appropriate City personnel. This is an experienced, professional level capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the profession with limited guidance or review. This level would be considered a promotional level and attainable by any incumbents in a work group who demonstrate the necessary knowledge, ability, and performance. Could be the only professional in this specialty in a work group.

Supervision Received

Performs work under general supervision with review and advice from manager or a senior level professional.

  • Knowledge of psychological practices and services.
  • Knowledge of all applicable laws, ordinances, standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of human resources practices.
  • Knowledge of corrections and court system policies, procedures and processes.
  • Skilled strongly in planning, organization, presentation, and communication.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong psychological testing and assessment skills.
  • Strong statistical skills.
  • Ability to work across City departments.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

Master's degree in psychology, social work or related field (Equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis). Five (5) years of experience in psychological services, social services intervention or delivery.

Licensures and Certifications

Must have State of Georgia Clinical license (LPC) and valid Georgia driver's license.

Preferred Requirements

Master's degree in psychology, social work or related field (Equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis) with five (5) years of experience in psychological services, social services intervention or delivery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.

  • Conducts psychological assessments and evaluations (intake assessments) for prisoners in the corrections or court system.
  • Recommends specialized treatment and wellness resources.
  • Recommends communication needed with the family or other appropriate City personnel.
  • May administer short or long term therapy or provide referral for therapy.
  • Administers, scores, processes and interprets psychological tests for applicants and employees.
  • Assists in managing City's Employee Assistance Program.
  • Monitors substance abuse policy to protect the City from liability and reports non-compliance.
  • Provides organizational interventions.
  • Conducts employee or supervisor training and crisis response.
  • Selects from multiple procedures and methods to accomplish tasks.
  • Serves as a technical resource or mentor to other employees.
  • May supervise less experienced personnel.
  • Performs concurrent care review in accordance with approved clinic and quality guidelines, performing post clinic and post hospitalization follow-up, providing care gap management, consulting and collaborating with patients, providers and other support team resources as appropriate.
  • Conducts suicide and violence risk assessments.
  • Provides treatment permitters and prevention support.
  • Bridges resource gaps that contribute to incarcerations.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
