What are the responsibilities and job description for the Floodplain Coordinator position at City of Arcadia, FL?
WORK OBJECTIVE:
This is responsible professional and technical work developing, researching, preparing, implementing, and coordinating Community Rating System activities, FEMA compliance, administration of FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance Grants, and complex public planning studies and programs, with a primary focus on the City’s floodplain management program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
§ Bachelor’s degree required with major course work in public administration, planning or related field -or- a high school diploma or GED with training and experience.
§ Possess and maintain the Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification issued by the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) or must obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
§ Three (3) years’ experience with NFIP CRS guidelines and implementation preferred.
§ Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License
§ Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training may be considered.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

§ Coordinate the functional and technical aspects for initiatives to reduce flood damage to insurable properties in the City of Arcadia.
§ Assist with application for and compliance with National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS) series guidelines and requirements.
§ Assist in achieving significant improvement in the municipal CRS score by following CRS coordinator guidelines provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
§ Make recommendations for program improvement and implement approved recommendations.
§ Conduct detailed studies, prepare reports, and make presentations regarding strategies to improve CRS scores.
§ Coordinate FEMA related sustainable development including the application, implementation, and close-out of FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance Grants and related historic preservation concerns.
§ Performs other related work (including during weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.
