What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal - Youth Runners Club Instructor (Recreation Sports Instructor I) position at City of Appleton?
The Youth Running Club Instructor will act as primary representative of the department on site during the Running Club program and will have supervisory responsibility over the participants and other staff members. The qualified individual should have a strong working knowledge of the sport they are interested in supervising, be passionate about creating a positive environment for learning, and have the capability of serving as a coach for the participants.
This program will run from late May through the middle of June on Wednesday and Thursday evenings (4:45- 5:30pm).ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Experience:
Strong knowledge of the principles and skills of cross country and road running, with an ability to translate that knowledge into concepts that can be easily understood by beginners/children.
Work Location: Erb Park
Days and Times: Wednesday and Thursday evenings (4:45- 5:30pm)
Pay Grade: 3

- Leads / Instructs groups of youth (15-20 per group) in the fundamentals of running/fitness
- Ability to demonstrate basic running skills and techniques
- Provide direct supervision of youth participants ranging from 4th- 8th grade while maintaining a safe learning environment
- Provide a high level of leadership through responsible actions and positive role modeling
- Perform set-up and take-down of program related equipment
- Complete any necessary paperwork related to specific job responsibilities (attendance forms, accident/incident report forms, check lists, etc.)
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Communicate clearly and effectively with parents and participants
- Communicate clearly and effectively with management staff
- Work closely with the Parks & Recreation Department staff and volunteers to ensure all department rules and policies are observed
- Attend all required staff meetings and trainings
- Attend and assist with the fun run at the end of the program
Experience:

- CPR/First Aid certification (will be provided, if needed)
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to confidently lead children in an authoritative role
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
- Able to work duration of the program as assigned by the program supervisor
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow staff members and the public in a courteous and tactful manner
- Valid driver's license
- Adhere to City of Appleton and Departmental policies and procedures
- Shall wear Parks & Recreation staff uniform per the City of Appleton dress code
