What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal - Swim Lesson Instructor position at City of Appleton?
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist the instructor in teaching various levels of swim lessons through preparation of lesson plans, taking attendance, anticipating equipment use, and following modeling/ direction given
- Ability to instruct and demonstrate the fundamentals of swimming and diving
- Be a positive role model for students
- Encourage children to participate in activities through positive reinforcement
- Perform set- up and take- down of program related equipment
- Conduct class with proper student discipline and enthusiasm
- Use safety techniques to properly instruct students
- Communicate with lead instructor and/or supervisor regarding any student/parent issues
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment
- Communicate clearly and effectively with parents and/or participants
- Attend all required staff meetings and trainings
- Work closely with the Parks and Recreation Department staff and volunteers to ensure all department rules and policies are observed
- Perform facility maintenance duties as determined by Pool Manager, Facilities Personnel, and Recreation Programmer
EXPERIENCE: Knowledge and/or background of the specific program
- Current Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and AED certifications preferred
- Experience working with children
- Physically capable of performing and demonstrating program related activities
- Able to work duration of the program as assigned by supervisor
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow staff members and the public in a courteous and tactful manner
- Shall wear Parks and Recreation staff uniform per the City of Appleton dress code
Minimum Age: 15 years old

Pay Grade: 3
Salary : $15 - $18
