ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assists in preparing the capital budget and five-year plans.
- Prepares plans and specifications for projects such as streets, sidewalks, sanitary sewer, storm sewer and water main.
- Reviews construction plans and specifications prepared by other Engineers.
- Conducts investigations of engineering problems.
- Coordinates with survey crews, inspections, and technicians.
- Confers with property owners, utility companies and others.
- Directs and coordinates work of contractors.
- Prepares feasibility studies, environmental statements, design investigations, grant applications, GASB financial reports and other reports.
- Applies to Corps of Engineers, DNR, DOT and other government agencies for necessary permits and approvals.
- Maintains contact with the public through calls and in the office in conjunction with construction projects.
- Coordinates right of way acquisition, utility relocation and owner relocation.
- Attends and gives presentations at public meetings regarding public works projects.
- Maintains regular punctual and predictable attendance, works overtime and extra hours as required.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Reviews subdivision plats, CSM’s and site plans.
- Reviews utility plans.
- Assists in the inspection and general office work on bridges.
- Assists in the design and renovation of sanitary and storm sewer lift stations.
- Evaluates and updates sewer systems maps.
- Maintains records of public works construction.
- Attends seminars and classes to remain informed about the industry.
- Assists with preparation of budget data.
- Prepares state and federal funding applications for projects.
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field, including relevant experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills.
- Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering as related to the preparation of plans and specifications for a wide variety of public works projects.
- Considerable knowledge of land and engineering survey system, techniques, and methods.
- Considerable knowledge of construction materials and standards of safety as related to structural designs and specifications.
- Ability to instruct subordinate engineering personnel in proper work methods and to supervise their work.
- Ability to adapt engineering methods and standards to the design and construction of a variety of complex public works projects.
- Ability to operate a computer with training in AutoCAD, Civil3D and GIS software.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with personnel within and outside the organization.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public, and to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Ability to withstand prolonged visual concentration.
- Ability to recognize characteristics, similarities, and differences in colors, sounds, odors and shapes associated with job related tasks, objects and materials.
- Hold a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
NOTE: Wisconsin P.E. Registration required or the ability to obtain within forty-eight months of employment
