Ensure the efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of the utility system.
Must possess a valid Class C driver's license when hired.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check and MVR check.
Must be able to possess/retain a valid Texas Class B CDL driver’s license within one year of employment.
TCEQ Class D Water License and type 1 collection or equivalent license required within 12 months of hire date or promotion.
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Ability to compile, assemble, copy, record and/or transcribe data and/or information according to a prescribed schematic or plan. Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference data and information, such as utility maps, work orders, and City Employee Handbook.

Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.

Ability to perform coordinated movements involving placing and turning motions, such as operating a backhoe, front-end loader, ton truck, dump truck, water pump, probe rod, and various tools.

Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions related to maintenance, operation, and construction of the city’s utility system.
- Assist the utility Supervisor by completing daily logs and other documents as required.
- Check meters, gauges, pumps, and control panels to verify correct operation of equipment and records information.
- Locate and repair utility lines.
- Maintain structures and fences.
- Flush water lines when necessary for water quality.
- Repair water mains, sewer mains, valves, services, meters, and fire hydrants.
- Raise, lower and repair valve boxes, manholes and curb & gutter.
- Attend safety meetings, follow safety procedures, and precautions and display good knowledge of safety procedures and precautions.
- Assist Utility Billing and/or Streets Divisions when needed.
- Log completed daily maintenance.
- Attend training as necessary.
- Perform ground maintenance and maintenance of all department vehicles.
- Operate equipment in the maintenance and upkeep of the city’s utility system.
- Read maps and blueprints to locate lines as required.
- Help implement the Water Conservation program, Public Works Inspections and any other report, inspection or program as directed.
- When directed, responsible for assisting in the implementation of the City’s Drought Contingency Plan.
- Perform painting, cleaning, maintenance and repair on municipal property, structures, and facilities, i.e., equipment, fences, buildings.
- Assist in the proper instruction and training of maintenance personnel in methods and procedures, proper use of equipment, preventive maintenance, and related maintenance and repair.
- Maintain current knowledge of trends and developments in the field of public utility systems.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
