Location: Recreation Center

FLSA Status: Seasonal Part-time, Non-Exempt

Average Hours/Week: 8 - 18 hours per week; Mon - Sat

Program Dates: June 8 - July 25

Rate of Pay: When working as an Athletics Program Assistant, the rate of pay is $12 per hour; when working as a referee, the rate of pay is $20 per hour.

SUMMARY

The Seasonal Program Athletics Assistant plays an important role in assisting in promoting appreciation for physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. This position provides leadership and supervision of the "Road Warriors" Summer Track Program, Summer Youth Volleyball League, and other recreational programs throughout the summer. Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants and perform other duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and engage participants in track camp, volleyball league, and other athletic programs
  • Officiate youth volleyball games and assist with enforcing league rules and standards
  • Accurately keep score, track time, and manage game flow during volleyball games and events
  • Ensure the safety of all participants by monitoring activities and enforcing rules
  • Maintain control of games and activities with fairness, consistency, and professionalism
  • Assist with organizing and leading track camp drills, events, and competitions
  • Communicate clearly with participants, coaches, staff, and spectators
  • Monitor behavior and address unsportsmanlike conduct or rule violations appropriately
  • Inspect courts, tracks, and equipment to ensure safe playing conditions
  • Set up and break down equipment for practices, games, and events
  • Respond to incidents or emergencies and report issues to supervisors promptly
  • Support a positive, fun, and structured environment that promotes teamwork and sportsmanship
  • All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING (Certification/Licensure):

The preferred way to obtain the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position is listed below. The City reserves the right to allow substitutions if a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but is deficient in another.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or currently enrolled in high school
  • Some volleyball or officiating experience required

Special Licenses, Certifications, and Designations

  • Valid, Class "C" Texas Driver's License preferred.
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or the ability to obtain
