The City of Anamosa (pop. 5,450) is seeking a Full-Time Public Utilities Operator to perform various tasks related to the construction, maintenance, operations, and repair of the City’s water and wastewater facilities. Under the direction of the Public Utilities Superintendent, the duties of the Full-Time Public Utilities Operator will include, but are not limited to; indoor and outdoor piping, distribution, pumping, and treatment of water/wastewater. Additionally, this position will be required to interact positively with citizens and employees, while performing routine and skilled services, including the installation and adjustment of water taps, meters, and related public services.
Anamosa operates under a Mayor-Council form of government with an appointed City Administrator. Anamosa is a full government service community with 7 departments including City Hall, Police, Fire, Streets, Utilities (Water & Wastewater), Library, and Parks & Recreation.
Required qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- A valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Iowa.
- Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge and ability to operate construction equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct daily/weekly/monthly monitoring and testing of water and wastewater as required in state operating permit.
- Knowledge of concrete materials and be able to perform concrete repairs.
- Knowledge and demonstrated ability to complete record keeping and legal notifications to customers.
- Job duties require frequent lifting of objects in excess of 30 pounds.
- Required to work outside under various weather and working conditions.
- Be in good physical health as determined by a pre-employment physical.
- Be able to pass a drug and alcohol test.
- Required to perform evening, weekend, and off-hour emergency duties as assigned.
- Required to reside within 20 minutes of the City of Anamosa for on-call emergencies.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and the public.
This is a full-time position with a starting wage of $20.60/hour ($42,848/year) to $27.60/hour ($57,408/year), DOQ/DOE.
