What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supervisor - Water Pollution Control Center position at City of Amherst?
Assists the Superintendent in all phases of maintenance and the operation of the Water Pollution Control Center (WPCC).
JOB DUTIES: The scope is merely to illustrate the duties that may be assigned to persons assigned this title. It should not be considered to describe all the duties that may be required of persons holding a position assigned this title or to limit the nature and extent of assignments a person may be given.
- Perform all duties for an efficient, safe, and good operating performance of the WPCC.
- Assume the duties of the WPCC Superintendent, lab analyst, maintenance tech, and operators in their absence, including possible weekends.
- Confer and communicate with any state or county authorities that require assistance on questions regarding plant operations.
- Keep records of time for personnel including vacation, sick, overtime, etc.
- Assist operators in regulation and adjustment of equipment and processes to create an acceptable effluent.
- Perform requirements of Mercury, Pretreatment, Sludge Land Application, and other programs as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
SPECIFICATIONS: Knowledge & training: Must know wastewater treatment methods, Ohio EPA requirements, plant maintenance plus all other details related to operation and management of the WPCC. Also required:
1. Applicant must have a Class III Ohio Wastewater Operator Certificate (or a Class II certificate with the requirement of obtaining a Class III within 18 months).
2. Applicant must have a minimum of 5 years experience at a Class I or greater waste water treatment facility.
3. Applicant must have a minimum of 1 year of experience in a direct supervision position at a wastewater treatment plant.
Ability: To supervise operators, analyze test data, operate the entire WPCC, make adjustments regarding maintenance procedures, perform during all conditions.
Physical & Mental Demands: Normal physical activity within the plant buildings and grounds; capable of immediately adjusting operations as needed; must be able to be exposed to all weather conditions during normal operation and when outdoor repairs are necessary.
Responsibility: Supervision of all plant operations upon absence of Superintendent; assists Superintendent in all plant operations; in general, perform all responsibilities of WPCC operator.
Civil Service Test scheduled for December 17, 2025.

Pay: $38.56 - $45.36 per hour
