Job Announcement:
A Humane Officer (also referred to as an Animal Control Officer) is under the general supervision of the Shelter Manager who operates the City's animal shelter and is responsible for the enforcement of animal control and cruelty laws and regulations. Employees in this class provide care to sheltered animals, capture nuisance animals, educate the general public on ordinances in relation to domestic pets, and respond to calls for services and emergencies twenty-four (24) hours a day. Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Basic level certification in animal control by the state's Department of Health (may be obtained post-employment).
• High school diploma or GED; Preferred to be supplemented by minimum six (6) months experience in a field related to animal control/care.
• Requires the ability to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
• Requires the ability to acquire within one year of hire advanced level certification in animal control by the state's Department of Health.
