Primary Purpose:

Under supervision of meter reading supervisor, responsible for reading water meters to collect data to facilitate calculation of consumption and charges, disconnection of water service for nonpayment of account, repair, maintenance and/or replacement of water meters.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma / GED

Valid Texas Driver License with acceptable driving record

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to multitask and prioritize workload appropriately.

Ability to operate a smart phone

Must be responsible, reliable and prompt.

Must establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, vendors, IT staff, and the public.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to maintain social awareness and calmly deal with irate customers

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Essential Duties

  1. Drive city vehicle to various routes throughout the city to perform meter reading or meter change-out;
  2. Write and maintain a daily work order log;
  3. Disconnects water service for various reasons, as assigned;
  4. Responsible for keeping assigned city vehicle in a safe and clean condition;
  5. Performs other clerical related duties and fulfills responsibilities as assigned; including but not limited to delivering council agendas and/or packets, picking up and delivering city mail, making bank deposits, assist with relocation of furniture and office equipment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Working Conditions:

Tools/Equipment Used: Common hand tools such as screwdrivers and shovels, pry bar, long metal poles, off-set wrenches, handheld electronic meter reading device, laptops, ipads, tablets, smart phone, drive trucks and cars.

Posture: Prolonged standing, balancing, kneeling, stooping, bending, stretching.

Motion: Frequent sitting to standing, frequent wrist and elbow flexion, fingertip gripping, twisting at waist, reaching, and crawling.

Lifting: Frequent light to moderate lifting; occasional heavy lifting (up to 100 lbs. assisted).

Environment: Mainly outdoors, bright sunlight, extreme temperatures (high heat/freezing cold), exposure to wild and domestic animals, rodents, snakes, spiders, and bees/wasps, occasional irate/upset customers, brush, weeds, dust, dirt.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under pressure; work with frequent interruption; may be subject to adverse confrontations; ability to assess workload and properly prioritize duties; ability to be cognizant of your surroundings while concentrating on your duties.

*Essential personnel are subject to recall during emergencies.
