Overview
In pursuit of service excellence, the Gym Monitor Recreation Leader provides front-line assistance to patrons at a recreation center. In addition, the Gym Monitor will be responsible for ensuring gym equipment is adequately maintained and used following safety guidelines. The ideal candidate should be able to provide excellent customer service to all center patrons while ensuring a safe and clean environment.

The Gym Monitor position at the Recreation Center is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are passionate about healthy lifestyles and enjoy interacting with people. As a Gym Monitor, you will play a critical role in ensuring that the patrons have a safe and enjoyable experience while using the equipment and facilities. In addition, you will be responsible for monitoring the gym area during operating hours, enforcing safety guidelines, maintaining a clean and organized environment, and promoting a friendly and welcoming atmosphere in the gym area.
The ideal candidate for this position should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, have a strong customer service orientation, pay attention to detail, and have the ability to handle and resolve conflicts professionally and diplomatically. Additionally, the candidate should have basic knowledge of gym equipment, and have current CPR and first aid certification (or be willing to obtain certification). The mission of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities is to enrich the City of Alexandria by creating meaningful experiences through public spaces, cultural activities, and programming. The Department's vision is to improve the well-being of every person in our community by connecting them to each other and their environment. The Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities received national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). National accreditation requires park and recreation agencies to meet 155 standards representing elements of effective and efficient park and recreation operations.
High School Diploma and one (1) year of related experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. First Aid training.
This position requires the successful completion of a criminal records background check and drug screening prior to employment.
