What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crew Supervisor, Water Distribution position at City of Alexandria, LA?
The purpose of this classification is to perform technical tasks at the supervisory level on an assigned shift performing various construction, repair, maintenance and operational activities in support of the Water Department of the City of Alexandria.
Organizes, schedules, supervises, assigns, reviews and inspects operations, maintenance and construction activities of the Water Department on an assigned shift.
Supervises assigned crews on an assigned shift; instructs, assigns and reviews work, maintains standards, coordinates activities, allocates personnel and acts on employee problems; evaluates work processes and makes recommendations as appropriate; offers advice and assistance as needed.
Monitors work in progress and ensures compliance with established standards; advises crews in techniques and practices; reviews reports; prepares requests for materials and supplies.
Maintains inventory of equipment, parts and supplies; orders materials and equipment needed for each job; perform routine safety inspections on equipment; coordinates needed repairs.
Prepares and processes paperwork and reports as required by department policy and procedure; receives and reviews timesheets, overtime reports and related documents.
Receives, reviews, analyzes and responds to difficult customer complaints or problems.
Oversees and participates in the inspection, construction, repair, service and maintenance of utility system lines, facilities and equipment.
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in water distribution or treatment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Depending on area of assignment, must possess and maintain valid State of Louisiana Class IV Water Distribution certification, or Class IV Water Production and Treatment certifications.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED. Candidates with lesser certifications may be considered depending upon their previous work history, level of certification, and needs of the department.
Such candidate(s) selected for hire must enter into a written transition plan to achieve certification as a Class IV Distribution Operator or Class IV Water Production and Treatment Operator.
Will be required to obtain and maintain specialized certifications and/or training as deemed necessary. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver’s license at time of appointment and a valid State of Louisiana Class D driver’s license within 60 days and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
